encre

Previously Eggplant Collection
encre is the French word for ink.

Every garment begins as ink on paper: the sketch, the reference image pinned to a studio wall, the handwritten note that becomes a silhouette, a collection, a moment in fashion history. When the season ends and the clothes leave the runway, most of them disappear. Archive is what remains - the permanent mark.

what we do

encre is a curated archive shop based in Toronto. We source and sell rare pieces of Japanese avant-garde fashion: Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe, Yohji Yamamoto, Undercover...... with a focus on runway pieces and significant seasonal collections.

Every piece we carry has a story. We research it, we document it, and we present it with the context it deserves. This is not vintage clothing in the conventional sense. Finding them, understanding them, and placing them with people who care about them is the work.

who we are for

encre is for people who already know, and for people who are beginning to. The archive is not a closed community. It is a body of knowledge that rewards attention and grows more interesting the deeper you go.

If you are building a wardrobe with intention, if you are drawn to clothes that have a point of view, if you want to own something that cannot be reproduced, here is the right place.
